Waterproof Backpacks

The Waterproof Backpack

As you slip this pack onto your back, you rest assured that it was designed by a team of explorers, sportsmen, military and professionals. Every feature is there for a reason, and it all just… works. Your notebook is safe and dry, and your lunch is separate in case of accidents. City or country, you know that your little waterproof backpack will be there, whatever the weather, doing its thing.

The Noatak 15L and 25L Drybag

Thankfully you’d remembered to pack some clean shorts and a jacket because you’re soaked through and you just know that you’ll freeze when you get there if you stay like this. Ultra-handy that you can stick your wet stuff into the same bag and keep it all away from your new magazine and iPod with the internal divider. And you can always stick the other strap back on the Noatak and wear it on your back to keep it out of the way whilst you enjoy the evening. Awesome.

So, you have your notebook on your back, and you know it’ll be dry despite the rain all day. But why didn’t you stick some spare shoes in with the dry gear? You hate having squelchy shoes at the end of the trip and you kick yourself for forgetting – there would have been plenty of room for them! Never mind, as long as you can get these wet clothes changed out of and stashed in the bag away from the computer, soggy feet are the most you’ll have to worry about.

Waterproof Camera & Camcorder Cases

The Camcorder Case

You don’t really care whether your back is getting burnt at the moment, because the fish on this reef are unbelievable. They’re like you see in the movies. The movies like the one you are making with your handy cam; the one you got in the sale no less. Move over Jack Cousteau & Steven Spielberg, there’s a new director in town, and you think you just saw a shark!

The Mini Camera Case

You’ve got your camera on you not because you know there’ll be the opportunity to use it, but just in case there is. And there sure is, as you come across a sweet log-jump into a muddy pool on the trail. Dismounting, you whip out the camera and wait… sure enough, the next rider sails right into the mud, sending up spray that looks awesome on the shot you got. Shame you’re now covered in mud like some nasty skin disease, but hey, that’s what Sundays are for. The Mini Point and Shoot Case fits most small digital cameras without a zoom lens.

The Camera Case with Hard Lens

Sand. How does it find its way so easily into everything? Your shoes are full and your hair may never be brushable again, but it’s worth it as you line up the perfect shot and capture man and nature at its finest. Using every ounce of balance against the wind, and maximum optical zoom, you manage to capture that perfect moment as the surfers get air, like some great preposterous birds out at sea. Lucky that wasn’t ruined by a grain of sand stuck in the lens drive. The Hard Lens Camera Case fits most small digital cameras with a small zoom lens.

The Waterproof SLR Case

Whoah! Was that a whale off the port bow? You’re not sure, but one thing is for sure; you’re ready for when it reappears. Camera poised, not even the cold wind and spray can put you off as it soaks into your ear and runs down your hands. There again! Click… got it. Fantastic shot: even if you are sitting in a canoe off the coast and your DSLR is always to hand, it’s still rare to get whales come so close. Can’t wait to get it emailed to the club. The SLR Camera Case fits most SLR cameras.

Paddleboards

The RRD 11

Roberto Ricci Designs (RRD) have released an SUP board called the Stand Up Eleven, which you will not be suprised to realise is 11 feet long ! I managed to take this board for a quick distance paddle at West Wittering last month. It is a very stable board, absolutely perfect for beginners to get to grips with paddling, and for them to take into the waves once they have mastered the paddling basics. It has a forgiving softskin deck, which feels good underfoot, and it has a 8.5 inch fin, which means it works well in the surf.

Here is the press release from RRD:

Finally a real all round Stand Up Paddleboard! Many brands have started to make SUP boards before RRD, but this 11” represents the latest development in SUP designs. Easy to paddle, the right board for everyone willing to start to SUP!

Features

The thin volume profile and the generous rocker in combination with a wide outline , generate a great stability, but once used in the waves, the board becomes a real wave rider! Equipped with a middle handle to carry the board, we have used this board opening to extend it with a middle mast box in order to convert the SUP into a very efficient and fun sailboard!

Rails configuration:

50/50 round edges on the nose area, 60/40 full rails in the middle to improve paddling potential and stability, full 80/20 rails with round TUE in tail area to improve turning potential

Paddleboard Fins

The 7.5" Albacore flex fin provides a nice twang off the bottom, you load the fin as you compress off the bottom and then let it release out of the turn- the projection is sweet and the arc you carve has a nice little pop to it. If you're surfing has a "beat" to it this is the fin that you want, it's all about load and release with this one.

At speed, the 3/2 Tech foils just provide more and more drive, especially when you're wrapping it all around back into the pocket. The fins let you come way out onto the shoulder and still wrap the board down and around. These side fins are a great starting point for figuring out what you want to run in the middle box. There's tons of lift in these things and the size is right- we don't like the little side bites unless you're into a slippy, slidey type of surfing.
